Initiatives for Packing Materials
In order to reduce the amount of resources we use, we are working to reduce the weight of packing materials, to prevent marine plastic waste, to switch to paper containers as a measure to reduce plastic derived from petroleum materials, and to select materials that can be easily disposed of.
Plastic-Free Eco-Paper Trays
We use eco-paper trays made from unbleached wood pulp, which does not contain chemical dyes or other environmental pollutants used for bleaching and dyeing that are environmentally friendly for our frozen food “One Plate Meal” series. By using molded containers* when manufacturing the eco-paper trays, we have been able to realize a tray with dividers for frozen foods, which had been difficult to make with paper trays. This has also led to a reduction in plastic use. In the future, we will continue to work on more of our frozen foods products to use paper trays.
Paper trays do not require plates and do not use water for washing.
* Molded containers: Paper molded containers made by dissolving raw pulp in water, straining it through a mold, and drying it.

Earth Friendly Eco Packing
We are working to reduce the amount of plastic used in the packing of our "Pasta Sauce", which is simply mixed with boiled pasta, in consideration of the environment.
|
Microwave Cooking Saves Energy and Time
Oh'my Pasta Sauce was developed to reduce CO₂ emissions compared to conventional hot water cooking by using a packaging material that enables cooking in a microwave oven. This one-serving pasta sauce is designed to meet needs for time-saving and convenience, and can be prepared by placing the bag upright as it is and heat in the microwave.

Adoption of Certified Forest Paper
We use PEFC-certified paper*1 for the paper trays and paper cups of our frozen foods such as pasta products.
We also use FSC® -certified paper*2 for the product packaging such as "nippn Flour We Always Wanted" and "Oh'my Natural Series Whole Wheat Spaghetti," and for periodicals such as internal bulletins, CSR-related reports, and business report magazines that we send to our shareholders. We will continue to promote initiatives that lead to the preservation of forest management.
*1 PEFC-certified paper: Paper certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), an international NGO, as appropriately managed wood and wood products.

Initiatives for Raw Materials
We are committed to adding value to agricultural products by developing and marketing products that meet consumer needs.
Plant Based Food
In recent years, the plant-based food market using plant-based ingredients has been growing. We have developed "SOYL PRO," a material that utilizes high-quality soy protein, in consideration of the global environment and with a focus on health and taste.
SOYL PRO is a new material made from tofu, which is different from ordinary granular soy protein (soy meat). Using a patented manufacturing process, it has realized a plain flavor without the unique smell of soybeans and a chewy, elastic texture.
We offer SOYL PRO for professional and home use. Our group company OK Food Industry Co., Ltd. also sells the product as an material. Some of our frozen foods are certified as vegan by Vege Project Japan, a non-profit organization, as products that do not contain animal ingredients, which are good for the health and the planet.

Japan Disaster Food Certification
In August 2019, "nippn Flaxseed Oil" and 10 other NIPPN's flaxseed-related products gained the Japan Disaster Food Certification introduced by the Japan Disaster Food Society.
Conventionally, emergency food has been focused on long-term preservation and satisfying the hunger immediately after a disaster. However, due to the frequent occurrence of disasters such as typhoons and earthquakes in recent years, as well as successive long-term evacuation, health problems caused by nutritional deficiencies have come to be emphasized. In times of disaster, people become especially deficient in protein, fat, essential vitamins, and essential minerals, and once malnutrition occurs, it takes time for them to recover their health condition. Thus, a well-balanced diet is needed from the initial stage after a disaster happens.
Therefore, we have obtained the Japan Disaster Food Certification after a rigorous screening process, in the hope that people will consume the nutrient-rich flaxseed as a form of nutritional support, which can be easily consumed by "just pouring" it over various foods, even in times of disaster. Together with medical professionals, we will be proposing this product to local authorities and families for "Rolling stock," a way of stockpiling daily necessities in case of disasters.
